What You Need To Do When Measuring For New Windows And Doors

There is light at the end of the tunnel following the Prime Minister’s decision to relax some of the current restrictions, but for now, Styleglaze is still not able to come and measure up any homes for new windows and doors.

Georgian Style Windows

We hope we can resume surveys and installations again soon. As a temporary solution, we are asking any customers who want to order new windows and doors from us if they could kindly measure up, in advance of them being fitted.

If you have an Online Design Appointment, you will be told how to measure up properly, or we can offer the same instructions over the telephone.

The measurements you take don’t need to be 100% accurate; just a rough estimate will suffice.

Here’s a short breakdown of what’s required when measuring windows and doors and buying them:

  • The only piece of kit you need is a tape measure.
  • You will have to measure both the width and height of your current windows.
  • To get the correct width and height, measure from brick-to-brick.
  • Supply the measurements in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
  • Take a photograph of your windows from the outside if you want some like-for-like replacements.
  • Provide us with a photograph of any new window design you’ve seen that you like.
  • Choose a colour for your new windows.

  • You will have to measure both the width and height of your current door.
  • To get the correct width, measure from brick-to-brick, and to get the correct height, measure from brick-to-floor.
  • Supply the measurements in metric or imperial units.
  • Take a photograph of your door from the outside if you want a like-for-like replacement.
  • Choose between a UPVC or composite door and select a coloured finish.
  • Do you want the new door to open inwards or outwards?
  • Is your current door hinged on the left and right as you look at it from the outside?

It would be great if you could have these measurements ready in time for your online design appointment as they’ll help us get your new windows and doors prepared more quickly.
